This note is intended to help how to upgrade or install the BI 7.X Precalculation Service.

Reason and Prerequisites

Following are the pre-requisites:
1. Access to the Service Marketplace2. You have successfully installed the BI 7.X frontend in SAP GUI 7.10 and it is running3. You have applied the latest Frontend Support Package 902

Solution

Important Information:
This version of precalculation (901) is the same which was released with the SAP Frontend 710 compilation CD 4 (Material number 50095979). So if an installation has been carried out from this CD then there is no need of further applying of this patch.

This note contains information about:

A) Installation of the Precalculation Service (step by step)
B) Included Corrections / Enhancements

A) Installation

The installation can be carried out through the step by step procedure as per below:
1. Location in Service Marketplace
2. Uninstallation of the previous version, if any
3. Installation of the new patch

1. Location in Service Marketplace:

In order to download the patch from the Service Marketplace, please check the following path:
http://service.sap.com/SWDC –> Support Packages and Patches –> SAP Frontend Components –> BI ADDON FOR SAP GUI –> BI 7.0 ADDON FOR SAP GUI 7.10 –> Win32

Download the patch to a suitable location ( C:\temp )

2. Uninstallation of the previous version, if any:

To uninstall the previous version of the Precalculation service, the service has to be stopped. The uninstallation differs in a server (or terminal service) and in the normal client and proceed the other steps
a) Terminal service:Go toStart –> Control Panel –> Administrative Tools –> Computer Management –> Services and Applications –> Services
Here check the service “SAP BW Precalculation Service”. On the context menu check “Properties”. Change the startup type to “Manual”. Click on “Apply” and then OK. After this, restart the computer.
Restarting the computer will make the BW Precalculation Service to stop. After restarting the program can be uninstalled.For uninstalling it go toStart –> Control Panel –> Add or Remove Programs –> Select “SAP BW Precalculation Service”.
Then remove it.
Please restart the computer after the uninstallation is finished.b) Normal client :
The uninstallation on the client is almost the same as on the server. Here also, the service has to be stopped. For this, please do as per the following:Go toStart –> Control Panel –> Administrative Tools –> Services (or … Computer Management –> Services and Applications –> Services).
Here check the service “SAP BW Precalculation Service”. On the context menu, select “Stop”. This stops the service running in the system. The change can be observed in the Status bar. When the service is started the status will be shown as “Started” and when it is stopped, the status will be empty. After stopping the service, the program can be uninstalled.For uninstalling the software, go toStart –> Control Panel –> Add or Remove Programs.Here select “SAP BW Precalculation Service”. Click on remove.
Please restart the computer after the uninstallation is finished.
3. Installation:

As per the step1 download the .exe file to a suitable directory. Then follow the below steps for the installation:
a. Execute xPreCalServer09_1.exe
b. Follow the installation steps and finish the installation.
c. After a successful installation, the final page should appear as “SAP BW Precalcualtion Service” has been installed successfully.
d. Start the service in the system. For this go to
Start –> Control Panel –> Administrative Tools –> Services (or … Computer Management –> Services and Applications –> Services).
In the services, select SAP BW Precalculation Service and from the context menu select “Start”. This will start the service.

This completes the Installation of precalculation service.

Precalculation related corrections can be included either in the Precalculation Server directly or in the BEx Analyzer or in both.
