This note describes why there is a mismatch in the release times of the
BI 7.x frontend patches 901 and 902. Currently the release date of an older patch 901 is newer than the latest patch 902.

Reason and Prerequisites

Because of a production release error, the FEP 901 got deleted from the service Marketplace when the newer patch 902 was released. Hence for sometime the service marketplace didnt had 901. When 901 was reinstated, the release date in the webpage became higher than the release date of 902.
The current SMP location from where the BI 7.x frontend patches are released shows this anomaly in the release dates of the new patches.
Currently the release dates are shown as:

This issue is due to a production release error. Due to a technical issue, the 901 was deleted when 902 got released and we redelivered the old patch 901 on 13th July.

Solution

Customers are requested not to follow the erroneous date in this situation. Please understand that the patch 902 is the newer version than 901, and hence download 902 and use it as the latest patch before the release of patch 1000.
The future patch delivery dates are mentioned in the note 1085218.

Following are the pre-requisites:
1. Access to the Service Marketplace2. You have successfully installed the BI 7.X frontend in SAP GUI 7.10 and it is running3. You have applied the latest Frontend Support Package 902

Solution

Important Information:
This version of precalculation (901) is the same which was released with the SAP Frontend 710 compilation CD 4 (Material number 50095979). So if an installation has been carried out from this CD then there is no need of further applying of this patch.

A) Installation

The installation can be carried out through the step by step procedure as per below:
1. Location in Service Marketplace
2. Uninstallation of the previous version, if any
3. Installation of the new patch

1. Location in Service Marketplace:

In order to download the patch from the Service Marketplace, please check the following path:
http://service.sap.com/SWDC –> Support Packages and Patches –> SAP Frontend Components –> BI ADDON FOR SAP GUI –> BI 7.0 ADDON FOR SAP GUI 7.10 –> Win32

Download the patch to a suitable location ( C:\temp )

2. Uninstallation of the previous version, if any:

To uninstall the previous version of the Precalculation service, the service has to be stopped. The uninstallation differs in a server (or terminal service) and in the normal client and proceed the other steps
a) Terminal service:Go toStart –> Control Panel –> Administrative Tools –> Computer Management –> Services and Applications –> Services
Here check the service “SAP BW Precalculation Service”. On the context menu check “Properties”. Change the startup type to “Manual”. Click on “Apply” and then OK. After this, restart the computer.
Restarting the computer will make the BW Precalculation Service to stop. After restarting the program can be uninstalled.For uninstalling it go toStart –> Control Panel –> Add or Remove Programs –> Select “SAP BW Precalculation Service”.
Then remove it.
Please restart the computer after the uninstallation is finished.b) Normal client :
The uninstallation on the client is almost the same as on the server. Here also, the service has to be stopped. For this, please do as per the following:Go toStart –> Control Panel –> Administrative Tools –> Services (or … Computer Management –> Services and Applications –> Services).
Here check the service “SAP BW Precalculation Service”. On the context menu, select “Stop”. This stops the service running in the system. The change can be observed in the Status bar. When the service is started the status will be shown as “Started” and when it is stopped, the status will be empty. After stopping the service, the program can be uninstalled.For uninstalling the software, go toStart –> Control Panel –> Add or Remove Programs.Here select “SAP BW Precalculation Service”. Click on remove.
Please restart the computer after the uninstallation is finished.
3. Installation:

As per the step1 download the .exe file to a suitable directory. Then follow the below steps for the installation:
a. Execute xPreCalServer09_1.exe
b. Follow the installation steps and finish the installation.
c. After a successful installation, the final page should appear as “SAP BW Precalcualtion Service” has been installed successfully.
d. Start the service in the system. For this go to
Start –> Control Panel –> Administrative Tools –> Services (or … Computer Management –> Services and Applications –> Services).
In the services, select SAP BW Precalculation Service and from the context menu select “Start”. This will start the service.

This completes the Installation of precalculation service.

This note describes the solution for an incomplete and incorrect installation of the frontend patch 902. The installation will have a
set of libraries which is having the patch number 905.

Reason and Prerequisites

Because of an error, the FEP 902 was not offered as 902, but as 905 on the Service Marketplace. The erroneous patch contains some but not all corrections of 902 (esp. correction described in note 1346393 is missing) and has a wrong number (905).
SAP HIGHLY RECOMMENDS those customers who got the erroneous patch 902, which contains the libraries of patch number 905, to adapt the methods described in this note.

Solution

The erroneous patch installs libraries of version 905 to the client systems. After this installation, as per the setup methods, client systems will not accept any patch which are lesser than patch number 905. Hence there will be only 2 solutions for this issue now. They are:

1. Install the next FEP 1000

The next FEP 1000 is planned to be available in the Service Marketplace latest on CW 33 of 2009. For more details please refer the release schedule note 1085218.

2. Uninstall the whole frontend and do a re-installation.

A new and correct FEP 902 (with the correction of note 1346393) is available in the service marketplace now for download. In order to apply the correct patch, the existing frontend tools must be uninstalled and installed afresh.

a. Uninstall the frontend.

Please go to the control panel –> Add\Remove programs. Select the programs “SAP Frontend” and “Business Explorer”. Click on Uninstall. This will remove the SAP GUI and the BW frontend from your PC.
b. Install the frontend from CD.

The initial installation has to be done from the SAP frontend compilation CDs. The CD number to be used here is 50092483. Select both SAP GUI and BI Frontend when you do the installation.
(Please make sure that, if you had uninstalled other Add-ons, you will have to select that one also during this time.)
c. Apply the last patch 900 or 901 (optional step)

Now please apply one of the last patch. (either 900 or 901, whichever is available.) After this installation your SAPBEXC check of the PC version should be of all green.
d. Now apply the new FEP 902.

After successful installation, please carry out a PC Check of the tool SAPBEXC. It should show all the BI tools as green and patch number as 902.
